Description

There is so much potential to grow and change the practice for greater equity. The goal of this session is to empower fellow architects and designers to improve the construction industry for marginalized people and to inspire action in support of minority-owned businesses through project specifications. The session will challenge attendees to broaden their product research and demonstrate the power of taking a small step in the right direction, allocating buying power to marginalized groups. Change is possible and the intent of this session is to conceptualize ideas intended to achieve greater justice through the practice of architecture throughout the country. Prioritizing marginalized businesses will help grow resources in the right direction. This session will promote marginalized businesses focusing on products produced by minorities and methods of opening the language of the specification to allow for participation of more subcontractors and vendors. There is an urgent need to recognize that marginalized owners do not have access to the same resources and find ways to even the playing field. The goal of this session is to contribute to a more just vision of the construction industry and redistribute financial benefits to marginalized groups.
