Tryna Okumu is a third-year architecture student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Her experience growing up in diverse communities away from her home in Nairobi, Kenya, has been one of the most formative aspects of her identity. It has fueled her passion for curating spaces where people can belong, share, and grow. Her time as a member of the SCAD NOMAS Chapter has provided the foundation and support that allow her to design these spaces, particularly for marginalized communities. Using design as a tool for advocacy has always been central to who she is. Whether through painting, drawing, or printmaking (and of course, architecture), she has long explored the power of visual expression to inspire change. She currently serves on the NOMA National Student Leadership Committee, where she helps support student outreach.
