Experience one of South Florida's most unique architectural treasures through a guided tour and architectural sketching workshop at the Ancient Spanish Monastery. Originally constructed in Segovia, Spain, in the 12th century and later reconstructed in North Miami Beach, the monastery offers a rare opportunity to study centuries-old European architecture within a South Florida setting. Participants will explore the history of the monastery, its remarkable journey across continents, and the architectural elements that define Romanesque and Gothic design traditions.

Following the guided tour, attendees will participate in a sketching session focused on observing, interpreting, and communicating architectural character through hand drawing. The workshop will introduce techniques for capturing proportion, massing, light and shadow, texture, and spatial relationships while encouraging participants to develop a personal and expressive sketching style. Through direct observation of the monastery's cloisters, arches, courtyards, and ornamental details, attendees will learn how sketching can strengthen visual analysis, improve design observation skills, and serve as a valuable tool for documenting and understanding the built environment. No advanced drawing experience is required.
