Description

In response to the ever-increasing frequency and intensity of climatic events, not only in promoting best practices for resilient design and construction practices, but we must also consider our preparation for the immediate aftermath of these devastating storm events that totally disable and dislocate our populations. Through case studies of different types of events, coordinating network of responders both for immediate needs, and exploring the role of SAP assessment training, this session will explore the critical role architects can play in disaster relief, focusing on how their expertise can ensure that communities not only recover but also thrive post-disaster. The session will include leaders from different states with storm events specific to their geography who will share their success stories in responding to the immediate aftermath of the storm.  It will also discuss how to coordinate with state and local jurisdictions to be part of the assessment teams as 2nd responders.
