Description

Development along the edges of our practice is frayed. Technical expertise and mastery require a framework. This Technical Track workshop introduces new tools, materials, and systems to aid emerging and emerged architects with a clear framework for how technical skills progress from introductory exposure to advanced mastery across practice. This session provides a structured, pathway-based approach to professional development specifically within technical expertise, aligning competency of skill acquisition with real project responsibilities and role expectations. Participants will explore a Competency-to-Mastery Lattice that maps technical skills across design, documentation, building systems coordination, and delivery. Participants will go through a sorting assessment to determine professional aptitudes and proclivities toward management, design, or technical expertise and map out their pathway. A roadmap for alignment with technical expertise will serve as a resource kit to drive the expanse of development. The workshop addresses how technical skills evolve to proficiency across experience levels —from early exposure to systems literacy, to advanced application and technical leadership—supporting clearer progression, reduced project risk, and improved coordination. Attendees will leave with a practical framework to guide technical growth, strengthen system understanding, and align their development with the demands of architectural practice.
