Today, we see and should embrace critical interfaces between the architect's hand and artificial intelligence. This session, Practically Mine: AI-Assisted Rendering Tools and their Applications, asserts that hand sketching is not a lost art form. Neither are conventional rendering techniques. However, architects who use AI in post-production bear the responsibility for authorship. This session peels back the curtain to reveal practical uses of AI in enhancing architectural renderings.   With architects in the driver's seat, we see how to guide AI, training the machine through a critical lens.  Here, we do not concede authorship. Instead, we promote a workflow that brings out the soul and spirit of perspectival images, bent to the likeness and culture of specific times and places. In this way, architects demonstrate to clients their ability to listen, engage, and deliver conceptual ideas that excite stakeholders and the communities they serve. Over the course of an hour, we see in real time a specific workflow: taking an original hand sketch and a rendered image, then training AI to embellish them with particular prompts. Participants will find that the presentation demonstrates practical and research applications in a participatory setting.
