Maria is a Technical Director at Gensler with over 13 years of experience in architecture. She is passionate about creating unique and timeless spaces that enhance the user experience and leave a significant mark on the environment. Maria is also committed to giving back to the local community and advocating for women and minorities in the design field.
Maria's interest in architecture began with her love of place, problem-solving, and the desire to unpack her surroundings. She believes that architecture is an act of creative collaboration that requires the input of many voices and disciplines. Maria is motivated by the architectural impact on society and its integration into the urban fabric and public interface. She views architecture as the art of organizing and creating space and buildings to meet the needs of its users.
Maria is a lead collaborator in the development of iconic architectural projects. Her approach focuses on delivering unique spaces that enhance the user experience while being functional and aligned with client aspirations. She works closely with the entire team and contractors during the construction phase to understand client drivers and goals while fostering collaboration amongst the team to achieve those goals and to ensure every project is completed successfully to a very high standard.
Maria's cross-cultural professional experience and a broad portfolio of work have given her the skillset and confidence to navigate nuanced boundaries between project types, market sectors, design phases, and cultures. She directs project teams and maintains the flow of deliverables from Gensler to clients.
As a Technical Director, Maria has worked on a variety of project types and scales from a 11,000 SF boutique fitness to mega-developments like Steelyards that will potentially contain 775,000 square feet of mixed-use space, 321,000 square feet of retail, and 800 residential units.
Maria is also passionate about giving back to the local community. She serves as President of Arquitectos INC and Vice-president of CWA (Chicago Women in Architecture). Maria continues to push boundaries through her work, voice, and advocacy for women and minorities in the design community. As a mentor for university students and young professionals, she is committed to bringing our Architectural community together, advocating for Latinos and Women in leadership, and promoting initiatives that create opportunities to increase licensed Latino architects.
