Corren Johnson has been appointed as the City’s second female Director of the Department of Transportation (DOT) by Mayor Brandon M. Scott, after an 8-month tenure as Interim Director, officially starting on July 19, 2023. Her leadership focuses on enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure to be safe, efficient, and accessible for all, emphasizing responsiveness, efficiency, staff empowerment, and resource stewardship.

Before her directorship, Johnson was DOT’s Chief Engineer and Deputy Director for Complete Streets, prioritizing safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users. Her career before joining the city in September 2021 included over 17 years at the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA), where she broke barriers as the first Black female District Engineer in Maryland. Johnson holds a Bachelor’s in Civil/Environmental Engineering and a Master’s in Project Management, contributing significantly to professional communities and mentorship programs. Recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2023, Johnson lives in Baltimore with her family, demonstrating a strong commitment to community and professional development.
