Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, NOMA, LSSYB, LEED AP, WELL AP is a Principal and the Global Director of Justi ce, Equity,Diversity, & Inclusion at HKS. Yiselle’s work seeks to dismantle barriers and create equitable practi ces through inclusiveworkplace strategies. As an architect and medical planner, she uses co-creati on design strategies to amplify the voicesof marginalized communiti es to increase their opportuniti es for equitable access to care. Yiselle grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico where she obtained a B.S. in General Science from the University of Puerto.Aft er receiving an M. Arch. Syracuse University, she began to focus on empowering the next generati on of leaders inthe AEC industry. In 2013, Yiselle co-founded the Lati n American Interior Designers, Engineers, and Architects(LA.IDEA)DC Committ ee and in 2017, founded the “Women Inspiring Emerging Leaders in Design” (WIELD) Event, thatin 2019 received the AIA Diversity Recogniti on Program Award. In 2020 as the AIA Nati onal Board Associate Director,Yiselle led the creati on of the AIA Alternati ve Care Site Preparedness Assessment Tool V2.0 Additi onal Considerati onssecti on requiring buildings consider design impacts on ethnically diverse and marginalized populati ons around theworld. In 2022, she served as the AIA DC Chapter Board Vice President/2023 President-Elect and the NOMA Nati onalResearch and Development Chair. Yiselle is a storyteller, featured author of the 2021 “Lati nas in Architecture” book, 2015 Christopher Kelley LeadershipDevelopment Program Scholar, and honored with the 2018 AIA Associate Award, the 2022 AIA Young Architect Award,and Top 50 in DC Women We Admire.
