Taft Cleveland, AICP, Associate AIA, NOMA is a highly skilled and creative healthcare design professional with extensive experience in healthcare functional and space programming, strategic facilities planning, clinical transitioning services for new facilities, urban design, and master planning. In his leadership roles, Taft serves as Co-Chair of SmithGroup's global J.E.D.I. committee, where he works towards creating a more equitable work culture for the firm's 1,500 colleagues. Additionally, in 2020, he demonstrated his commitment to community development by volunteering with Chicago's Invest South/West Team Englewood to design an equitable development strategy for the city's South and West sides. Over the past four years, he has advanced thought leadership in health equity, helping healthcare architects nationwide create inclusive spaces. He co-founded the Health Equity Design Collaborative with Espy Harper and Dr. Tammy Thompson to dismantle health inequities through impactful design. We were named "Industry MVPs" at Healthcare Design Magazine's 2022 Conference. His medical planning experience includes inpatient nursing units, ICU, diagnostic imaging and surgery design. An open-minded leader recognized for creative thinking and effective problem solving, Taft has the proven ability to create visionary healthcare environments by developing strong collaborative relationships with clients, stakeholders, project teams and allied professionals.
