Description

Join members of the NOMA Educate Pillar and Dark Matter U. to engage in dialogue around academia and scholarship. The EDUCATE Pillar is intended to expand NOMA's recruitment and retention efforts to meet the needs of our higher education professionals while promoting rewarding alternative career paths in architecture and design industry. Founded in 2020, Dark Matter U (DMU) is a democratic network guided by the principle that we cannot survive and thrive without immediate change toward anti-racist models of design education and practice. During this workshop, we will explore the mission of the EDUCATE Pillar in tandem with DMU Principle 03: New forms of Collectivity and Practice, and Principle 04: New Forms of Community and Culture. The intention of this session is to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas, experiences, and strategies for elevating marginalized voices within architectural academia and for challenging and reshaping architectural education toward a more just and equitable future. The workshop will include updating membership on the NOMA Journal, the NOMA Directory of Scholars, the DMU Dark Matter Papers, and upcoming DMU programs. We will discuss opportunities for ongoing engagement through networking, peer-to-peer mentoring, and discussions on topics most pertinent to design education.
