Description

This session will summarize the various steps of facility, space needs, and user programming that steer a client's master plan. It will display how our interdisciplinary team of project managers, designers, and engineers tailored and executed the facility and operations programming for our commuter railroad client to navigate their future tracks to expansion. The human and financial resources of any organization set the stage for any expansion. For Virginia Railway Express (VRE), we gathered information on the fleet, buildings, and site circulation at Crossroads Yard in Fredericksburg, VA. We noted how the organizational leadership values, regional transportation initiatives, O&M tasks, and other VRE sites would shape the intended growth of the Crossroads Yard. The seminar will note how to navigate any organization to extract detail regarding:

  • access for internal and external groups
  • movements around and through the main environment
  • expansion/replacement of existing buildings/storage
  • safety and security impacts

Our team extrapolated data from the Transforming Rail in Virginia initiative, then delivered design drawings (concept site master plan, track sections, bridging documents) to graphically capture the location and magnitude of future site interventions for the phased expansion. The presentation will be verbal and augmented by a digital presentation.
