Description

Health disparities faced by Black individuals, as noted by KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation), are significant, spanning shorter life expectancies, higher cancer mortality rates, and alarming infant/maternal mortality rates. These inequities are exacerbated by persistent racism, profoundly affecting Black communities' well-being. Historically, systemic mistreatment in the U.S. healthcare system has led to deep-seated mistrust among Black communities, demanding attention. This forum seeks to illuminate these issues, presenting research findings and projects showcasing how design processes can better address Black community needs. Insights from Gensler's "Black Voices in Healthcare" initiative, which involved candid discussions to identify barriers to trust and enhance the Black healthcare experience, will be shared. Additionally, we'll outline eight actionable steps for immediate progress on this critical issue. Our presenters will facilitate open dialogue, drawing from personal experiences to foster meaningful exchanges. We invite your participation in this essential conversation on healthcare equity, aiming to raise awareness and drive positive change. Together, let's address these challenges and commit to a more equitable future in healthcare.
