Description

"We Were Here: Potter’s Field Recognition,” the 2024 NOMA Conference Legacy Project, aims to honor the memory and highlight the LEGACY of those buried in Baltimore's Western Public Cemetery also known as West Potter’s Field in Baltimore’s historic neighborhood of Cherry Hill. West Potter's Field, historically used for the burial of unknown or indigent individuals, reflects Baltimore’s previous attitude towards poverty and death. This Legacy Project involves active community engagement and EXCHANGE of passions and ideas between NOMA Members and community members. A design charrette and presentation will follow initial engagement and a site visit to provide innovative and context-driven designs for the community to then pursue the funding for this project to become reality. This design charrette seeks to explore and conceptualize a memorial that respectfully acknowledges the site's history and the lives of those interred. Transportation, snacks, and lunch will be provided.
