Born in Sonora, Mexico, Carlos grew up at the core of Mexico City, experiencing one of the world's most densely populated cities firsthand, significantly impacting his interest in the built environment. A graduate of Tecnologico de Monterrey, he started a firm in northern Mexico, and later joined a firm in Phoenix, AZ. in 2012, with colleague and friend Clarisa del Castillo, co-founded Merge Architectural Group, ranked one of the Top-10 small architectural firms in Arizona. His work has been highlighted at Sources + Design Magazine, New York AIA +The Plan Magazine conference, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, COX7, Telemundo, the Detroit Historical Society Museum (2021) and the V Regional Architecture Biennial in his beloved Mexico. A recipient of the 2016 Arizona AIA’s Young Architect Award, Carlos believes you need to be part of the change to trigger change. He is an active member of the Architecture community where his roles have included: President-Elect at AIA Arizona Phoenix Metro, immediate Past-President of NOMAarizona, Advisory Committee member for the Arizona Board of Technical Registration, and member of the examination committee for the National Council of Architect Registration Board.
