Through the lens of five AfroLatinx designers, architects, activists, and educators from across the country, this session will shed light on challenges, opportunities, and successes experienced by many in AfroLatinx communities as they work to change the profession, its priorities, and conversations in the public realm. The session will highlight moments of unity within Latinx communities, celebrate the diversity of the presenters, their work in cultural preservation and spatial activism. The speakers are geographically diverse, with roots throughout the diaspora from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and more. The group represents a spectrum of design worlds including professors, firm founders, artists, architects, and designers who not only will share their personal story but also trace back into their roots and address displacement, colonialism, and the disturbance of land.
