Success in Succession is an informative course based on the recent experience of a firm transitioning from a sole proprietorship to a worker's cooperative. In this course, we will address the following questions: What is a cooperative? Why did we decide to transition to a worker's cooperative? What's involved in a transition like this? What are the steps and process of forming this type of business ownership? Why are architecture firms well suited for transition to a worker's cooperatives? In addition to addressing those questions, we will review the Pros & Cons of a cooperative and the typical risks involved in forming a cooperative. We will share our most recent experience creating our worker's cooperative by highlighting key players and partnerships. Finally, this course will elevate the value of intentional mentorship, especially by Ron Abo, FAIA NCARB, NOMA, and our hands-on training from cooperative experts Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center (RMEOC).
