Description

Join us in kicking off the NOMA ’23 Conference with the Legacy Project, where we will team up with the Portland-based Black Food Sovereignty Coalition and Black Futures Farm to flex our brains and our muscles. The morning will include a tour of Black Futures Farm in SE Portland, followed by an on-site charrette where we will ideate around planning green spaces for liberation, enhancing the flow of energy, conversation, and community-building. With the Black Sovereignty Food Coalition and their community members, we will explore how space and structures can represent Black agricultural histories and futures, developing design ideas for living walls and perimeter sound and privacy screens. Following our charette, we will work in the garden – collecting and saving seeds for future seasons, pruning berry bushes, mulching, and building garden structures.  We recommend wearing warm layers and closed toed shoes, such as waterproof rain boots or sneakers. Transportation, snacks, and lunch will be provided.
