Matthew Smith, LEED AP Manager, Exhibition Design & Head Exhibition Designer Matthew directs the Exhibition Design department at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, overseeing gallery design for a wealth of collaborative art installation projects and featured exhibitions. Matt has worked on more than 50 exhibitions and installations during his tenure at the museum, spanning over a decade. His extensive career has afforded him the opportunity of working with acclaimed artists, colleagues, and institutions from a local scale to international acclaim, including collaborations with prestigious entities such as the Fondation-Giacometti, the Rubell Family Collection, Musée du Quai Branly, and Museum of Fine Arts Boston, among others. Holding a master’s degree in architecture from The Savannah College of Art and Design, Mathew brings over 25 years of experience across various project types, including civic, corporate, academic, institutional, thematic, and cultural. In 2013, he founded DesignerSmith Studios, LLC, broadening his expertise to serve a diverse clientele in art exhibitions, exhibit design, architecture, and interiors. Through DesignerSmith, Matthew has worked with organizations like the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum, Architect of the Capitol, and Alliance Française Kansas City, demonstrating his dedication to delivering impactful design solutions in various contexts
