Tim Culvahouse, FAIA, NOMA, helps fellow architects enrich their practices by sharing what they know. He brings to this work a diverse career as architect, educator, editor, author, and communications consultant. As an advisor to over 50 successful nominations to Fellowship in the AIA, three AIA National Firm Awards, and many other individual and firm recognitions, he understands the wide variety of ways in which architects deepen their experience, advance their careers, and enhance their lives. Tim is a contributing author, with Ellen Lou, to John Lund Kriken's Building Saigon South: Sustainable Lessons for a Livable Future, and instigator and editor of "The Tennessee Valley Authority: Design & Persuasion". From 2000 to 2024, he was editor of AIA California's quarterly print journal, arcCA and its online successor, arcCA DIGEST, arccadigest.org. He has taught at Rhode Island School of Design, where he served as head of the Architecture Department, and at California College of the Arts, where he was associate dean for the Schools of Design and Architectural Studies. He has held visiting professorships at Tulane University, Carleton University (Ottawa), and UC Berkeley.
