Description

Many NOMA conference attendees likely experienced their first impression of Kansas City upon arriving at Kansas City International Airport. Would you like an inside look at how the design-build team collaborated with the City to create a highly inclusive, culturally reflective, and passenger-focused airport experience? Join us for a guided tour where we’ll share behind-the-scenes insights into the design process, answer your questions, and gather your real-time passenger feedback nearly three years post-occupancy through our survey. SOM served as the design lead, architect, and structural engineer of record under Developer Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate and Designer-Builder Clark | Weitz | Clarkson (CWC). The new consolidated terminal, replacing the three original jet-age terminals, was a massive collaborative effort—including over 23 Kansas City-based design consultants with many being Minority and/ or Women owned businesses that complemented and brought significant value to the team. Tamicka Marcy and Jenn Finley of SOM will lead the tour alongside Kansas City’s Aviation Department, highlighting integrated design details, accessible features, inclusive amenities, artwork and historical displays, sustainability measures, security innovations, and operational complexities that helped define the terminal’s success.
