Description

Join Hufft and Community Builders of Kansas City (CBKC) for a walking tour of The Rochester—a project redefining what equitable development looks like in Kansas City. Located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in a historically redlined district, The Rochester is the first market-rate apartment building east of Prospect Avenue. It provides high-quality residences for those who don’t qualify for affordable housing but are priced out of more expensive neighborhoods—helping to create economic diversity in an area that has seen little private development. Designed to integrate outdoor public space, the building connects the street-level entry to a private rooftop deck through natural daylight and circulation, creating a seamless experience between public and private realms. The tour will also explore Offices at Overlook, CBKC’s $100 million, 11-acre master plan designed to drive lasting, community-centered investment in eastern Kansas City. More than just buildings, the plan prioritizes people over cars—integrating a mile-long wellness trail, outdoor workspaces, and public gathering areas to create an active, pedestrian-first environment. This holistic approach to development aims to ignite long-term economic growth while fostering a vibrant, connected community.
