Over the past two years and especially in 2025, JEDI programs are under attack. There have been legislative and court challenges to JEDI at both the state and federal levels. JEDI-focused staff and volunteer leaders across industries are reporting burnout and funding for such positions and initiatives being cut or eliminated from budgets. Champions of JEDI are walking a fine line as they work to sustain hard-won advances and deal with backslides in commitment and outcomes. The AIA Strategic Council is focused on finding solutions. The Framework for Design Excellence addresses key areas of equity, including community-scale issues, social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, community engagement, resilience, and mobility. Based on ongoing AIA research, this panel of strategic councilors will exhibit how you, your firm, organization, or university can contribute to advancing equity to create a bias free profession. This will be an interactive and in-depth look at how universities, firms, and organizations are tackling JEDI initiatives through the use of the tools available, case studies, and reporting from interviews with firm and chief architect leaders who are tackling JEDI in their communities. All panelists are actively contributing to JEDI and engaged in initiatives to ensure a diverse pipeline of future architects and equitable development in the communities we live and serve.
