The focus on inclusion and diversity within the architecture profession has only recently gained significant attention. People of color have long faced challenges in their workplaces, and for architects born outside of the U.S., the journey can be even more arduous as they often face a unique set of challenges that remain underrepresented in mainstream discussions. From cultural and language barriers to instances of discrimination, these obstacles can complicate their career journeys in profound ways. This session will bring together a dynamic panel of immigrant architects who will share their personal experiences and professional insights. Panelists will highlight the strategies they employed to overcome barriers and navigate their paths to success while addressing the systemic challenges they encountered along the way. Attendees will hear compelling stories of resilience, growth, and contributions that immigrant architects bring to the profession and their communities. The discussion will also explore the role of volunteer work in fostering stronger local connections and the development of a deeper appreciation for the U.S. as a chosen homeland.
